Kuwait Sales : 2017

tháng 6 07, 2018

The town Kuwait started out as a fishing village but gradually grew from that. Oil being discovered in the late 1930's changed things enormously. About 4 million people now live there, mostly Arabic or Asian ethnically.

Toyota as usual for much of the world is the big brand, with nearly 30% share. Otherwise, no brand stands out markedly. I've colour coded the list by region of origin for

Poland Car Sales : 2016-17

tháng 5 26, 2018

Sales here have been growing nicely for a few years now, with the total into record territory. Consecutive increases of 17% isn't shabby. Škoda is the leading brand and slowly building its market share. Otherwise sales have a stable feel about them, with nothing drastic happening with individual brands.

Subaru Car Production : 2016/17 (April-March)

tháng 3 03, 2018

Subaru is a small brand and especially so in its home market. It survives by being different and sales in the North American market. More recently Toyota taking a share has and will be a major benefit too. So how are things going? Sales were up 11% in the March to April 2017 period compared to the previous equivalent time frame.

For years Subaru sat on the mid to high 500,000's and then moved

Martinique Car Sales : 2017

Holiday anyone?

This island in the Caribbean is an overseas region of France so I assume sales here may be included in the total for France but I am unsure. Maybe a reader could clarify this. Anyway, the nearly 400,000 inhabitants bought well over 16,000 new cars, up 3% on 2016. The top four brands are French owned so no bias there. Toyota jumped three places with a 22% increase in sales. BMW

Colombia Vehicle Sales : 2017

tháng 2 15, 2018

Sales for the first six months contracted 2.3% but for the year it was down 6.1%. In 2016, it 10.5%. Chevrolet is the big brand in Colombia and has been for some time. The Chevrolet Spark model is the best selling model, followed by the Chevrolet Sail.

GM has lost some market share while Nissan at #3 is up 15% from 7.2 to 8.8%. Hyundai has had a bad run in recent years but is making a

Mexico Premium Brand Comparison : 2017

tháng 2 15, 2018

This is not a country with a huge premium segment. For example Canada was 33% larger for all sales but premium sales are nearly 280% larger. That's hardly surprising due to the difference in the economies but it does prove a point.

If we first look at premium sales minus the big three, there isn't much happening here. 11,000 units is tiny, with Acura jumping into the top spot, vacated by

Jaguar Sales By Selected Nation : 2017

tháng 2 12, 2018
The title including the word selected actually means those I have statistics for. That is 97% of the total I must say. I wrote just over a week ago to Tata asking if they wanted to reveal more data, such as sales by nation and I got no reply, and if you don't get an answer within a week you probably won't, I took that as a no.

The increase of 20% was down to the new F-Pace SUV, the company's

Land Rover Sales By Selected Nation : 2017

tháng 2 10, 2018

Again the term 'selected' relates to what I found, with 93% accounted for. It would have been nice to get that up a bit higher but fro a few Middle East nations, it would have been. Total sales were up 2%, not huge but it was expected as a year of consolidation took place.

The most colourful list on the internet is full of interesting pointers. Asia/Pacific is salmon, The Americas purple,

Mexico Car Sales : 2017

All that's lacking is the tumble weed

Sales were down 5% after a 19% increase the previous year. Some brands were well down, others the opposite. Nissan is the most popular brand in the country and has continuously been so since 2009. It has consistently been around the 25% share for all of this decade. However, a 9% dip in 2017 dropped it below that percentage. GM took a hit this year, with

Philippines Vehicle Sales : 2017

tháng 2 05, 2018

It's not that easy to get data from there as it isn't all collected by one body and I get the feeling some smaller car brands aren't even on the list below. Welcome to the Philippines. Enough of the compliments as we now delve into the data.

Sales were up 18%, due mainly to uncertainty over new vehicle tax for 2018. It's a protected market so unless one manufactures in the vicinity, forget

Japan Car Sales : 2017

tháng 2 03, 2018

Many years ago there were two car manufacturers that were the main brands in Japan, Toyota and Nissan. For example, in 1974, they had 68% of all sales between them. That was not an uncommon occurance until the end of the 1980's. In the 1990's, Nissan slipped slowly down to the point that Honda took second spot in 1999.

Through all of this, a top five has emerged. Apart from the three

Thailand Vehicle Sales : 2017

tháng 2 03, 2018

The unusual thing about this list is that is compiled by Toyota Thailand. I assume participation is optional but I don't know the detail. I do know that some of the smaller brands can appear or disappear. Both Jaguar and Land Rover just stopped during this year. I have included the sales but wonder if it is complete. Porsche just start during the year, again unsure why. At least the bigger

Malaysia Car Sales : 2017

tháng 2 02, 2018

The Perodua Alza is a popular model

Sales were flat in 2017, better than last year's effort. Because it is a protected market, the car companies that manufacture here dominate. You could safely say the top half of the list below has some sort of local assembly and the bottom half doesn't. Notice how the lower half is all in the negative too.

Proton was historically the most popular make,

China Car Sales : 2017 (locally made only)

tháng 2 01, 2018

Why an imported car into China has no agency tabulating their number is one of life's great mysteries. For many on the list, there is no difference or very little. For a few, especially premium brands there can be quite a bit of difference. Overall the numbers seem hard to fathom at times, but they are reasonably accurate.

VW has been number one for so long, getting in early was the secret.

Lada Car Sales By Model : 2017

tháng 1 31, 2018

Lada is the brand for the Russian car manufacturer AvtoVAZ. It was started in the 1960's and by 1970 was making cars under licence to Fiat. It was immediately successful and production rose quickly. Over time things deteriorated and the company ended up in poor shape. In 2008 Renault bought a share of the company and has since taken a controlling interest. Renault is now issuing sales data for

Renault Group Car/LCV Sales By Nation : 2017

Lada joined the fold in 2016

The chart below shows the sales of the top 50 countries this collection of brands do business in. It's colour coded by regions. Aqua is Europe and that is where the Renault Group is strongest overall. Purple is the Americas, yellow Asia/ Pacific, green Africa/Middle East. In the last category is a brokers entry, I assume it means dealing with middle men who buy

Uruguay Car Sales : 2017

tháng 1 28, 2018

In the 1990's Fiat was the best seller, but in the next decade it was all Chevrolet. The last two years were not good for The General but Chev is back in 2017...and how! A 92% gain in market share is a huge shift, taking it from 8.3% to 13.4%. In fact the whole scene is marked by monumental shifts, often the case with smaller nations but markedly so this year.

Registrations were -8% in 2016

Australia Vehicle Sales : 2017

tháng 1 28, 2018

Unfortunately the data here comes as total sales, which adds truck makes into the mix. Ignoring that, there are changes happening here. Local car manufacturing is in the process of winding down. The brand that will feel it the most is Holden, which is already falling. The question is whether it will continue to slide or new models coming in will be successful. Ford and Toyota also are involved

Singapore Car Sales : 2017

tháng 1 27, 2018

Toyota took over from Nissan to become the best selling brand in 2002 and been the most successful brand since. It lost out to BMW in 2011 and 2012, then Mercedes Benz in 2013 and Honda in 2016, but got the lead back in 2017.

The artificial system of COEs where buyers bid for a limited amount of entitlements to purchase a car favours premium brands. This is especially noticeable when

Israel Car Sales : 2017

tháng 1 27, 2018

Mazda was long the best selling brand in Israel but in 2011 that came to an end. Hyundai had taken over and then Kia joined it. Why the fascination with Korean cars I'm unsure, but they are both well and truly ensconced at the top. The movements here are drastic at times. Ford was number two in 2012 but 23rd this year. Mitsubishi was 18th in 2012, 5th by 2015 and back to 9th. VW was 5th in
